Climate
The weather at Puerto Plata is just as wonderful as its landscape. With a tropical climate all year long and an average annual temperature of 77º F, you will always be comfortably warm. The ocean breezes, gorgeous beaches and tropical vegetation create an infinitely relaxing atmosphere.
Access
The International Airport of Puerto Plata "Gregorio Luperon" (POP) is only 30 minutes away, and Santiago International Airport (STI) is 60 minutes from the resort. Transfers can be arranged at the hotel or taxis and shuttle buses are available. Renting a car is another alternative. The majority of rental car companies have an office at the airport.
Currency
The official currency of the Dominican Republic is the Dominican Peso, which is divided into 100 cents. Although it is not official, the U.S. Dollar is widely accepted in all parts (and sometimes even preferred over the peso).
It is legal to exchange money in commercial banks, exchange booths and hotels. The exchange rate is determined by the Central Bank and is based on market conditions. Most banks are open Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm. Major credit cards accepted include Visa, Master Card, American Express and Diner’s Club. ATMs are located on resort and at various points throughout the Dominican Republic.
City
Puerto Plata, located on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, boasts a coastal scene of picturesque beaches and breathtaking mountain views. Between the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the majestic mountain Isabel de Torres to the south, Puerto Plata was originally a refuge from pirates and conquerors. It is the most important artisan center of the Dominican Republic and has an abundance of handmade crafts.
